Greater Than Three Outreach

About

“As a Kinesiology Student at ACU, Heidi Wachtel has been in my network for years here and she has been an inspiration every step of the way. She is a 47-year-old student in social work at ACU who was an ultra marathon runner, D1 runner, and Detroit firefighter for 15 years before her trampoline accident that left her paralyzed. However, through the power of physical therapy, Heidi miraculously regained mobility in her upper body and started a charity to support others like her. Heidi is absolutely unstoppable and it is an honor to help her in this new endeavor! That being said, the money we raise for Greater Than Three will support their mission of providing adaptive sport/rehabilitation modalities and programs for people with traumatic mobility loss who want to re-engage with sport. We are ecstatic to benefit a charity that is so close to us, in the Abilene community, and that meets such a unique (and often unmet) need!”

“At Greater Than Three our mission is to offer hope and independence to those who have suffered from a traumatic mobility injury such as a spinal cord injury or amputation. We want to offer opportunities to go beyond what they thought possible through adaptive sports and rehabilitation.

The name Greater Than Three comes from when I first had my Spinal Cord Injury and was told I had less than a 3% chance of moving anything below my neck. The doctors said less than 3% but my God said I was greater than that. After 4 months in the hospital and not getting better, I chose to find other ways to be Greater Than Three percent. Four and a half years later, I have almost full use of my arms and some movement in my legs.

The board of Greater than Three Outreach and I invite you to join us in this journey of bringing hope and independence to others. Please be sure to bookmark and share our page to stay updated on events.”
